Ancient Astronauts sind ein Produzenten- und DJ-Duo aus Köln. Ihr Sound zirkuliert zwischen dubbigen Bässen, funky uptempo Drums, Reggae/Dancehall Vibes und Breakbeat/Hiphop Beats. Dazu schaffen sie es durch live eingespielte Instrumente, Scratches und eine gute Sample Auswahl dem Ganzen den speziellen Switchstance Sound zu verpassen. Sie haben zu Beginn ihres Schaffens mit DJing und dem Remixen von Songs gestartet, 2001 gründeten die Astronauts, namentlich - Kabanjak und Dogu - Switchstance Recordings.

Ancient Astronauts veröffentlichten eine Reihe von Singles, deren Bekanntheitsgrad zunahm, bis sie schließlich die Aufmerksamkeit der US-Produzenten Thievery Corporation auf sich zogen, die sie direkt bei ESL Music unter Vertrag nahmen.
Die LP "We Are To Answer" wurde 2009 veröffentlicht und zeigt den unvergleichlichen Sound des Duos. Ein paar wenige Exemplare der LP- erstmalig auf Vinyl - sind aktuell noch über die Seite ihres Labels Switchstance Recordings erhältlich.

Die Ancient Astronauts haben seit ihren Anfängen einen langen Weg zurückgelegt und in der europäischen Underground-Szene Zeichen gesetzt. Kollaborationen mit Künstlern wie The Pharcyde, The Jungle Brothers, DJ Brace, Shawn Lee, Vieux Farka Toure, Raashan Ahmad, der Thievery Corporation, Fort Knox Five, Akua Naru, Bajka, Tippa Irie, Nickodemus, Azeem, Zion Train oder Martin Perna von Antibalas sind nur ein paar Beispiele. In der heutigen Welt hat zwar jeder die Möglichkeit Musik zu machen. Bemerkenswert sind dabei aber immer diejenigen, die in der Lage sind, ihren ganz eigenen Sound zu kreieren und damit aus dem Rest hervorstechen. Dieses gelingt den Ancient Astronauts auf hervorragende Weise!

Im Januar 2021 haben die beiden das Zik Zak Album veröffentlicht. ZIK ZAK ist ein Meisterwerk und eine afrikanische musikalische Odyssee,in der einige der freshesten Talente aus neun Ländern des Mutterkontinents vertreten sind. Die Astronauts verbinden diese Diversität an Künstlern mit ihrem uniquen Boom Dub Sound.
Die Produktion basiert auf Hip Hop, Dancehall, Roots Reggae, Bassmusik,Soul, Electronica sowie Breakbeat und umfasst Live-Instrumente und musikalische Einflüsse aus ganz Afrika und seiner Diaspora. Bei ZIK ZAK liegt ein besonderer Schwerpunkt auf der intensiven und lebendigen Szene in Uganda, in der sich lokale,mutierte Formen von Afrobeats und Dancehall von den bekannteren, globalisierten Produkten Nigerias und Jamaikas weg entwickelt haben.

Ancient Astronauts are a music production and DJ duo from Cologne/Germany. Their music is said to be infused with beats that defy any rigid classifications. After a successful leap of faith into event promotion to brand their unique style of DJ’ing and remixing songs, The Astronauts, Kabanjak and Dogu, began Switchstance Recordings in 2001.

The Astronauts released a series of singles which grew in momentum until finally gaining the attention of U.S. Producers Thievery Corporation who immediately signed them to ESL Music. The full length LP We Are To Answer was released in 2009 launching Ancient Astronauts undeniable sound to the outside world.These travelers have come a long way since their early days spinning records in the sleepless European underground scene. Collaborations with artists such as The Pharcyde, The Jungle Brothers, DJ Brace, Shawn Lee, Vieux Farka Toure, Raashan Ahmad, Thievery Corporation, Fort Knox Five, Akua Naru, Bajka, Tippa Irie, Nickodemus, Azeem, Zion Train or Martin Perna of Antibalas are a few examples.
In today´s world, everyone is capable of making music. The few who are able to carve their own sound and stand out in the loud are worthy of mention.
After approaching their 15th anniversary of Switchstance Recordings in 2016 it´s obvious the Ancient Astronauts have earned their presence and will continue to do so for the far future to come.

In January 2021, the two released the Zik Zak album. ZIK ZAK is a masterpiece and an african musical odyssey, in which some of the freshest talents from nine countries on the mother continent are represented. The Astronauts combine this diversity of artists with their unique boom dub sound.The production is based on hip hop, dancehall, roots reggae, bass music, soul, electronica as well as breakbeat and includes live instruments and musical influences from all over Africa and its diaspora.
At ZIK ZAK there is a special focus on the intense and lively scene in Uganda, in which local, mutated forms of Afrobeats and Dancehall from the better known, globalized products from Nigeria and Jamaica have evolved away.
