Block Barley ist ein Beatmaker und Künstler aus Hamburg.
Sein Sound zeichnet sich durch vielschichtige Sample-Collagen, druckvolle Drums und selbst eingespielte Patterns aus. Stilistisch bewegen sich seine Produktionen von Lo-Fi, über Boombap bis zu experimentalen Sounds & Loops. Block Barley schafft es einen eigenen Sound zu kreieren, der oft schon aufgrund der Sample-Auswahl aus der Masse der aktuellen Beatmaker heraussticht.
Seit dem ersten 7"-Release 2003, folgten 2007 ein Longplayer auf HongKong Recordings und 2008 die Michigan Nights Single mit Guilty Simpson, welche auf weaintmusic und im Rahmen der Beat 45-Serie bei Melting Pot Music erschienen ist.
Für die erste Votava Collectors Box hat Mr. Barley mit "Song for pro era" einen Vinyl-Exclusive Instrumental Track beigesteuert. Der Song kommt mit einem melodischen psych-rock sample und schweren drums in boombap Manier hypnotisch durch die Speaker. Nach dem break bekommt die Nummer einen twist, der durch orientalisch anmutende Querflöten samples a la Jethro Tull besticht. Bis auf wenige Exemplare ist diese rare Nummer vergriffen. Block Barley is a producer and artist from Hamburg. His sound is characterized by multi-layered sample collages, powerful drums and self-recorded patterns. Stylistically, his productions range from lo-fi to boombap to experimental sounds & loops. Block Barley manages to create his own sound, which often stands out from the crowd of current beatmakers due to the sample selection. For the first Votava Collectors Box, Mr. Barley has contributed a vinyl-exclusive instrumental track, "Song for pro era". After the break, the number gets a twist, which impresses with oriental-like flute samples a la Jethro Tull. Except for a few copies, this rare number is out of print.
