About the Nilotika Cultural Ensemble project
"The Nilotika band is an upbeat and danceable Traditional percussionist combo that puts taps in your toes and smiles on your faces. We play with both local and combine international instruments that groove up your spirit. "
Nilotika Cultural Ensemble ist nicht nur eine Nyabingi Rasta Band aus Uganda, sondern auch ein gemeinnütziges Kollektiv, welches sich in der Community Arbeit engagiert. Dazu gehört neben aktiver und unentgeltlicher Stadtteilarbeit, Mentoring für Kinder und Jugendliche durch Näh- und Percussion Unterricht, auch das Durchführen von regelmäßigen Musik- und Nähprojekten in den verschiedenen Armenvierteln der Stadt Kampala.
NCE steht allen Kindern, Jugendlichen, Erwachsenen und Ältesten offen und dient als Drehscheibe für Gruppen und Einzelpersonen, die sich für Musik, Tanz, Produktion, Schneidern & Nähen, Modedesign und afrikanisches Handwerk interessieren. Das Ensemble zelebriert die afrikanische Spiritualität und verkörpert indigene Identität durch traditionelle Nyiabingi Percussion und Vocals auf Luganda.
Live ist die vierzehnköpfige Band ein Erlebnis! Neben dem massiven Drumming der verschiedenen Trommeln, aktzentuierter Einsatz von Blasinstrumenten, gibt es Call und Response Interaktionen, Gesang, virtuose Raps, traditionelle Songs, handgeschneiderte Kostümen energiegeladenes Tanzen zu bestaunen.
Genre technisch wird zwischen Reggae, Dancehall, Indigenous Hip Hop und Afro Soul geswitcht - Djembe, Muguddo, Adungu, Namunjolooba, die Ensaasi Shakers und Base Drums sorgen aber immer für den NCE typischen Nyiabingi Sound.
Selber kategorisieren sie ihren Stil in Traditional Folk Music, Traditional Roots Reggae, Culturemophin (dancehall style), Massive Percussion, Indigenous Hip-Hop, Soul Hits und Traditional Jazz.
Das Nilotika Cultural Ensemble begeistert seit vielen Jahren das Publikum in Ostafrika. Zu den Highlights zählen gemeinsame Auftritte mit Chronixx und Anthony B, sowie Gigs auf internationalen Plattformen wie dem Nyege Nyege Festival (UG), dem Bayimba Festival (UG), der Jazz Safari (UG) und dem Naivasha Rift Valley Festival (KY). Weiterhin veranstalten sie regelmäßig Trommelkreise und bieten kostenlose Shows bei der jährlich stattfindenen "Ghetto to Ghetto" Tour an.
Haltet Ohren und Augen offen - die Crew veröffentlicht demnächst ihr erstes Album und ist natürlich auch mit diversen Einzelkünstlern des Kollektivs auf dem Zik Zak Album der Ancient Aastronauts vertreten.
Grounded in african spirituality and indigenous identity, Nilotika Cultural Ensemble is an arts-based community organization in Kampala, the capital-city of Uganda. Open to all children, youths, adults and elders, NCE serves as a hub for groups and individuals who are passionate about music, dance, production, tailoring, fashion design and african crafts.
A live performance by Nilotika Cultural Ensemble highlights the power and intensity of the Baganda drums. Audience members can anticipate traditional songs, compelling call and response, vibrant hand-made costumes and energetic dancing. Performances further showcase genres like Reggae, Dancehall, indigenous Hip Hop and Afro-Soul.
Nilotika Cultural Ensemble has been dazzling audiences in East Africa for many years.
