Patrick Thomas ist Grafiker, Autor und Pädagoge. Er studierte am Central Saint Martins und am Royal College of Art in London, bevor er 1991 nach Barcelona zog. Derzeit lebt und arbeitet er in Berlin. Er hat seine limitierten Siebdrucke auf fünf Kontinenten ausgestellt, von denen viele heute in privaten und öffentlichen Sammlungen aufbewahrt werden. Patrick Thomas hat weltweit Vorträge gehalten und zahlreiche Workshops abgehalten. 2005 veröffentlichte er “Black&White”, eine Zusammenstellung seiner Arbeit für die International Press. 2011 wurde sein Protest Stencil Toolkit von Laurence King, UK, veröffentlicht. Eine überarbeitete Ausgabe wurde im April 2019 veröffentlicht. Im April 2018 wurde er im BBC Radio 4 Front Row zu seiner vierundzwanzigstündigen öffentlichen Installation Breaking News in Liverpool für RRU News, eine unabhängige Kunstorganisation, die vom Arts Council of Great Britain und Liverpool finanziert wird, interviewt. Das Projekt wurde seitdem in London, Manchester, Seoul, Novi Saad und Rom entwickelt und gezeigt.
Seit Oktober 2013 ist er Professor an der ABK-Stuttgart. Er ist Mitglied der Alliance Graphique Internationale und wurde im Frühjahr 2019 zu einem siebenwöchigen Aufenthalt an der Deutschen Akademie Rom Villa Massimo in Rom eingeladen. Im Januar 2020 schaffte es sein Kunstwerk für die Berliner Philharmoniker in die engere Auswahl für einen Grammy.
2019 schuf er Open Collab, ein selbst geführtes Workshop-Format, um die Zusammenarbeit, den Dialog und das Experimentieren zwischen den Teilnehmern zu ermöglichen und zu fördern. Im März 2020 wurde während der Sperrung von Covid-19 eine kostenlose Online-Plattform gestartet, um die Remote-Zusammenarbeit in Echtzeit zu ermöglichen. Seit dem Start von Open Collab haben weltweit Tausende von Kreativen teilgenommen.
Für die neuste Votava Veröfentlichung steuerte Patrick Thomas nun einen exklusiven zweifarbigen Risoprint bei. Dieser widmet sich dem Thema Nyiabingi und den damit verbundenen Bereichen Percussion, Widerstand und afrikanische Textil-Patterns.
Patrick Thomas is a graphic artist, author and educator. He studied at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art in London before relocating to Barcelona in 1991. He currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany. He has exhibited his limited-edition silkscreen prints across five continents, where many are now held in private and public collections. He has lectured and held many workshops worldwide, extensively in the UK and Spain. In 2005 he published Black & White, a compilation of his work for the International Press. In 2011 his Protest Stencil Toolkit was published by Laurence King, UK. A revised edition was released in April 2019. In April 2018 he was interviewed on BBC Radio 4 Front Row about his twenty-four hour public installation Breaking News in Liverpool for RRU News an independent art organisation funded by the Arts Council of Great Britain and Liverpool City Council. The project was since developed and shown in London, Manchester, Seoul, Novi Saad and Rome.

Since October 2013 he is a professor at ABK-Stuttgart. He is a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale and in Spring 2019 he was invited for a seven week residency at Deutsche Akademie Rom Villa Massimo, the German Academy in Rome. In January 2020 his artwork for The Berliner Philharmoniker was shortlisted for a Grammy.
In 2019 he created Open Collab a self-run workshop format to enable and encourage collaboration, dialogue and experimentation between participants. In March 2020 a free online platform was launched during Covid-19 lockdown to enable remote real-time collaboration. Since its launch thousands of creatives have participated worldwide.
For the latest Votava release, Patrick Thomas has now contributed an exclusive two-tone risograph print. This is dedicated to the topic of Nyiabingi and the related areas of percussion, resistance and African textile patterns.
